Blacklist K-Otic

So I’ll start this out by saying that I was never a K-Otic fan, but I have to balance that out by saying I’ve also never really listened to any of their stuff before, aside from their song “My Girl” which kept playing constantly while I was in Thailand, and I really wasn’t impressed with it haha. That one, and another song..I don’t remember what it was…but I remember they had to bleep out a word in the lyrics when it aired on TV and I was like O_O What the heck did they just say? Aren’t they too young to be swearing?? haha

To me they just seemed like a group RS Promotion was trying to push emphasizing the fact that the members are of multiple ethnicities (One member is Korean and two are half-Japanese), and then GMM Grammy came out with the same type of racial-mixed group Prince and I stopped hearing about K-Otic and forgot they were around until their latest album, Blacklist, was released.

First off, why “Blacklist” for an album title? I swear, every time I’d glance at headlines and see “K-Otic, blacklist” I’d do a double take and for two seconds think WHAT did they do that they’re blacklisted now and from what??? …Oh, wait. Album/single. That’s right. False alarm.

The screenshots of the music video looked fun, with choreography and lighting effects and the like, so I thought I’d check out their first single, also titled “Blacklist.” And…no offense, K-Otic fans, but I started translating this a long time ago and meant to post about it when it first was released, but…I just could not force myself to finish the song. I’m sorry it just…just so not my style, I guess. I must admit I think they can dance a whole lot better than Golf-Mike or even C-Quint, but their voices just do not appeal to me, I’m not really feeling the lyrics, and I’m not finding myself so into their poppy rap style.

Also not particularly fond of their latest looks. Especially the one with the big blue hair (sorry, I don’t know names…Is that Poppy??). Like…if I remember correctly, he used to be the cutest one, didn’t he? And now his hair is just big. And blue. And one of the Japanese ones with one side shaved and the rest in a pony tail. And the Korean one looking extra like a typical Korean nerd with the glasses. And the other one with like half of his hair spiked up and half of it down and a random rattail on the side. Eeesh. Not the best hairstyles.

So then their second music video for their newest single, “แฟนใหม่ / Faen Mai (New Boyfriend)” came out. And at first I was really reluctant to hear it. I assumed it would be just like My Girl or Blacklist, and again I was afraid I would start it, get through the first verse, and just lose all will to continue with it. BUT, since we’ve never had a K-Otic post, and I know there are fans of them who read our blog, so I decided to suck it up and fulfill my civic duty to post about a variety of groups for as many different fanbases as possible.

BUT at first I only wanted to translate it from the lyrics and not listen to it hahahaaa.

But fortunately (or unfortunately, however you want to look at it), it’s difficult for me to translate just by reading and not hearing, so I finally caved and went to watch the video.

And…wow. I…do like this song. A lot, actually. I really like it. And the more I listen to it, the better it gets. I stand corrected!! So I have to eat my words and take back my previous K-Otic dislike, at least partially. I think their voices are more suited for this style of slower R&B-pop music, and once again, I find their dancing better than most popular groups nowadays. I like the MV as well, I think it fits~

I also tried to translate the Japanese rap in this one, but I’m sorry for the blank, I swear he mumbles that line and I can’t hear it. If anyone can understand or has the Romanization for the Japanese he’s saying, do share! Otherwise I tried my best, I hope the Japanese is right, I couldn’t find lyrics for it and my Japanese isn’t the best And sorry I don’t know Korean haha

So, all in all, I’m still on the fence with K-Otic. I haven’t listened to their album yet, but judging by their two singles, it seems like a pretty even 50/50 split chance I could either like it or absolutely hate it. So I’m kind of afraid to give it a test listen at the moment. I think I’ll let the boys stay in my neutral zone for now
