Da’s Album Has a Sting

So, it’s taken me a while to get to it, and then this blog was down for a while, but now I can finally give Da Endorphine‘s latest album “แสนแสบ / Saen Saeb (Super Sting)” a proper review~

First of all, I really loved her first single, “Saeb,” loved how upbeat it was, loved the lyrics, so I was feeling really optimistic about this release. Then, I saw the cover art, and I gotta say I really love it, I’m really into doing drawings like that, so to see something like that on an album cover was pretty cool. And then I got the album and listened to it…and…eh. At first listen I wasn’t that impressed, it was a little boring to me. It took several listen-throughs to really get into it, and even then I’m torn; about half the tracks I really like, the other half I can’t stand listening to.

I guess starting with her latest singles, the second was “จุดเริ่มต้นของจุดจบ / Joot Rerm Dton Kong Joot Job (The Beginning of the End),” and it’s exactly what it sounds like; another of those falling-out-of-love songs. The music isn’t bad, I like Da’s voice, and the music video is pretty impressive. I like the storyline of how the couple stumbles upon a dead girl in the road, and the guy takes her and takes care of her, and his love gives her life while taking it away from the first girl, leaving her to take the girl’s place dead in the middle of the road. But…I don’t know, just not the song for me, I guess. I prefer “Saeb” more.

Third was her single, “หญิงไทย / Ying Thai (Thai Girl).” I went into this track with CLASH’s “Thai Girls” in mind…and was a little disappointed when I found out it was a little slower and not as carefree, but it’s cute in its own way. Not something that made it to my ipod, but cute.

So, 1 out of 3 on the singles, I had higher hopes for the rest of the tracks on the album…but…I don’t know. The music is good, all the songs are distinctive and different, but half the songs are about fading love, something that some people may love to listen about, but not something I can relate to at the moment and thus boring for me. However, the other half of the songs I did like, had a fun sound, and good lyrics.

Let’s see, if I had to pick two other favorites to mention, I’d first have to go with “เรื่องน่าเบื่อ / Reuang Nah Beua (A Tiring Problem).” I love the slow, lazy droll of the beginning as it slowly builds up, and I absolutely love the lyrics, like “Look at this stupid problem you caused, I fell in love with you, I’m sick of thinking about you all the time, let’s fix this.”

And second, her song “จะรักก็รัก / Ja Ruk Gor Ruk (We’ll Love, So Love).” Not only does it have a nice beat, but I love these lyrics. Why question love or try and look for a reason? If you’re in love, just go with the feeling!

So yeah…I really don’t know where I stand on this release. I wanna give a big thumbs up to half the tracks, but still a thumbs down to the other half. So would those cancel each other out and leave me neutral on it? I guess?

Regardless, I think it’s worth checking out, at least half of it
