What Do You Think About Two Popetorn?

I remember when Two Popetorn‘s first big single, “โปรดอย่ามาสงสาร / Bproht Yah Mah Song Sarn (Please Don’t Pity Me),” came out, and Rukdara sent me a link to it wondering if it was the old RS duo Two whom I was madly in love with. And I remember getting SO excited thinking Two could be active again, and rushing to listen to it…and then finding out it wasn’t my Two, it was some solo guy named Two Popetorn. And I was SO sad and SO disappointed, even though at first I didn’t think the song was so bad, I didn’t even want to listen to it, like how dare this guy have the same name as my Two? Psh. And I remember not being impressed with his looks either; he reminds me of a cross between Bie Sukrit and Aof Pongsak. I could just picture him doing various heart moves while bugging his eyes out.

But, for whatever reason, I ended up putting the song on my ipod, and a couple days ago it came up in my playlist, and I was completely blown away by it! The music, the style, his voice, the bittersweet lyrics, everything. I didn’t recognize what it was until the chorus came up, and that’s when I decided maybe I should give this Two guy another chance. So, with “Prot Yah Mah Song Sarn” stuck in my head for the rest of the day, as soon as I got home, I went and watched the music video. I really like the MV, I think having the majority of it in black and white really goes with the mood and scenes of both the video and the song, and I like the story of having him as a ghost in a graveyard.

So, at that point, I figured wow, I need to find out some more about this guy. And apparently he’s with the LOVEiS company (same as Lipta), had a single or two of his own over with them over the past couple years, and was even on the TMT album! Now I have to go back, look at which TMT songs I liked that made it to my ipod, and see if any involved Two haha. But yeah, so then I checked out his second and latest MV and single, “คิดอะไร / Kit Arai (What Are You Thinking),” and wow! I was blown away again, in a completely different way! He can do gorgeous slower R&B, and he can do upbeat, poppy R&B too!! I love this song! I love the flirty, suggestiveness of the lyrics, I love the style and the beat, and his voice~ He kind of reminds me of a Thai SE7EN…which fits cause his name’s Two and all, right? ahahah. Watching the music video is kind of funny for me, though, since I don’t think he fits the image for this song at all haha. He looks too clean-cut! It would be better if he could dance and had more styled hair and clothes that would make him fit the bad-boy image more, but whatever, he’s still got a GREAT voice for the genre~

So yeah, after that, I was like wow, I NEED to check out this guy’s album. So I did. And now I really hate myself for not listening to him sooner. Every track is so great, so perfect, I couldn’t skip through any of them. I had to listen to the album full through, every last second of it, which even then was difficult, because I kept wanting to go back and repeat the tracks two or three times before moving on to the next one, so it took me forever to actually finish the album. But man, this guy’s got it all! Every song is a winner, and he’s got a nice mix of slower numbers and more upbeat ones, I think I can safely say this is the best album I’ve heard since Boy Peacemaker’s.

Let me say, it’s one of the hardest things I’ve had to do to pick just one more song to translate and post about in this review. I wanna post them all!!! But I guess if I HAVE to pick one, I’ll go with the second track, “แค่ในฝัน / Kae Nai Fun (Only in My Dreams).” Such a nice, smooth number with a nice rhythm with more cute, bittersweet lyrics about wanting someone so much while telling yourself you can’t have them.

Man, seriously, where has Sony been hiding this guy? I feel like they should have been promoting him WAY sooner than this haha. And I feel like throwing a tantrum and throwing everything off my desk and pounding on the walls, like why did his album only have 6 tracks?? It should have at least been a full album! I need more!! hahaha. I think Two Popetorn is a nice, refreshing, new sound to the Thai music industry, and definitely I think one of the greatest R&B artists to come out of the country, and I’m dying to hear more from him in the future. He’s definitely got the potential, let’s see him go far~
