Sweet Mullet Are Razor-Sharp

Posted by Tahmnong

So, yet again starting out a Sweet Mullet review by saying I’m not a Sweet Mullet fan (or at least haven’t been), and when their second new single, “คมมีด / Kom Meet (Razor-Sharp)” came out, I wasn’t in the greatest rush to listen to it. And I managed to avoid it until one day I was looking for something to post about, so I gave it a listen…and I swear they were screaming in the chorus, and I couldn’t get halfway through. So I put them out of my mind.

Then, today comes, and again I’m looking for something to post, and I see their music video for “Kom Meet” came out. So I figured I’d give it another chance. And I’ll admit, the song isn’t as bad as I first thought. In fact…there’s no screaming. :| So now I’m wondering what the heck I was listening to the first time? Singer Tao has a decent voice, but there’s something about this song that just sounds too similar to their first single, “Sapaawah Huajai Lom Liew Chiapplan.” I like the style, but at some parts I felt like I could start singing the other song, which isn’t good if you want your songs to stand out and not just all blend together. And don’t get me started on the lyrics…I have nothing to say about emo lyrics like this haha. There are some lines I liked, like the “รอยยิ้มเธอ ที่ซ่อนอะไรไว้อยู่ข้างหลัง (มีดคอยทิ่มแทง) / roi yim ter tee son a-rai wai yoo kaang lang (meet koi tim taeng) [Your smile has something hidden behind it (A knife waiting to stab)],” but otherwise I just can’t get into these “You keep hurting me, I give up, I’ll let you destroy me” songs.

Then the music video…pretty standard Grammy music video, with the focus on the band playing. What’s up with their hair, though? You can see them all more clearly in the top picture up there. They seem to need a new makeup artist as well. Tao reminds me a lot of Nap Retrospect (and not in a good way). The girl they chose is hecka creepy, but I guess she fits the part, and I like the the whole idea and way they went about with the stabbing scene. I just wish they would have stopped there, as having the last half of the video nothing but them getting drenched in raining blood was a little much…

I’ve had enough, how many times I’ve hurt from you coming back
When you have another problem with him, right?
tang tee ter gor roo waa chan-nan kon mee jai
Though you know that I care about you
dtae tee tam meuan hen chan bpen kong dtaai
But you act like you see me as a dead thing

gon koie gra-nam taeng glaang hua jai
Before you once stabbed me in the center of my heart
man yang bpen baat plae mai haai jon wan nee
The wound still hasn’t healed today
laew a-rai tee tam hai ter dtong maa keun dee
Then what made you come back?
I don’t understand what you want

roi yim ter tee son a-rai wai yoo kaang lang (meet koi tim taeng)
Your smile has something hidden behind it (A knife waiting to stab)
roi yim ter tee tam hai krai dtong bpuat raao…
Your smile causes someone to hurt…

meet kong ter nan hak kaa hua jai chan
Your knife is broken off in my heart
man yang baat leuk long bpai yoo took wan
It’s still deeply wounded every day
man chaang tor-ra-maan haak waa ter dtong gaan
It’s such torture, if you want to
ja tim taeng hai naan kae nai
You’ll stab me for how long?
leuat tee baat plae haam bpai yang rin-lai
The blood from the forbidden injury still flows
You repeatedly come back to hurt me, I’m almost dead
ja dtong tam yang ngai ja dtong kwak hua jai
What must I do? Do I have to gouge out my heart?
reu hai chan dtaai yoo dtrong nee…oh no..
Or just let myself die right here…oh no…

kon lom glap yiap sam yam ao wai
My tormentor comes back to keep trampling
mai hai krai daai feun yeun look keun eek krang
Not allowing anyone to stand up again
chan gor yom hai ter tam raai hua jai jon pang
I’ll let you hurt me until my heart collapses
dtae dton nee por tee yaa rerm daai mai
But now, it’s enough, don’t start, please?

But I am impressed with Sweet Mullet, showing their versatility and toning down the screaming and hard rock. They do have a third single that just recently came out, but I haven’t listened to it yet. I hope it sounds substantially different than the first two, though. I am really liking this style, but if the whole new album is going to sound the same like this, they’re risking running themselves into another rut with me.

first off, let me laugh at that picture on top!!!! LOL. Tahmnong, you just have to pick a funny one? lol! love it.

i didnt really watch the mv the first time, i listened to it for about 45 seconds. but i skipped it to the end and OMG, it’s raining blood! that’s only something dark bands can do and pull off. i wonder what they used, dye and water? cause if it was kool-aid mix, :)

but YES! i do agree that they’ve tone down their music. I was kinda :O when i heard this ‘ballad’. well, ballad for screamo music. i thought after the last ballad single they would have had enough, but it’s really impressive for them to send out another ‘bloody’ ballad. respect i do indeed.

and yes, they need a new hairstylist. but then at the same time it’s good to see that they arent always so ‘dark, imma kill you, my heart is breaking, you stabbed me’ dark. they’ve toned down. i wonder why so? and i wonder what the company thinks of them going softer? i mean i dont mind but i always feel like Sweet Mullet gave all those little nek daos power to be dark and rule over the underworld! ha ha ha! *evil laugh*

but if they want to gain more fans by showing how diverse their music is, they won me a while back when they first stopped screaming. especially that cute one. the one all the way to the left. they were also guest stars for the Potato The Real Concert. if they’re a friend of Pup, they’re a friend to me :)

THANKS. keep it up Tahmnong with the great pictures. i love to laugh and smile as i share my thoughts :)

The song isn’t bad at all. I like it, although like I mentioned to you before I don’t really remember what their other song sounds like ahah

I really like how they did the drawing for the stabbing scene and that girl is ubber creepy perfect for the role. but yea all that blood at the end was a little much. they should have cut that down a bit.

and their hairstyles! theres really nothing to say other than to point and laugh… yes point and laugh
