A Few Moments for Seven Days

Okay, finally, I think I’m ready to give a review on the new Seven Days album. A special project group put together of seven RS Kamikaze girls standing for each day of the week, Seven Days has been ridiculed since the release of their first single for being a rip of the ever popular K-Pop girl groups.

But so I’ll be honest here… I actually fell in love with the first single, “Pawa Lok LUV.” While I did find some of their dances annoyingly similar to some of Wonder Girls’ moves, it’s still hecka catchy, and the lyrics are pretty cute, as was the music video, and albeit so was the dance. So I figured eh, why not, I’ll give this group a shot.

So then I waited for the music video to come out for their second single, “จะมีสักวันที่เป็นของฉันมั๊ย / Ja Mee Suk Wun Tee Pben Kong Chun Mai (Will There Ever Be a Day That’s Mine?)” before I gave it a listen, and when I did…Wow, that was disappointing. First, it was a slow song that doesn’t even have a particularly nice or catchy melody and instead sounds pretty repetitive, though that could be just because they kept repeating the bridge and chorus to make the MV over 6 minutes long to fit in the storyline. Second, the lyrics are nothing extraordinarily new or original, just the usual “Will you ever love me?? *melodramatic back of the hand to the forehead* with a hint of whine to it. Third, the music video. Wow, It’s completely exactly the same as Four Mod’s Dek Woon Wai MV. Like…95% the same, the only difference is the sport is badminton instead of volleyball. I mean, I know that Four Mod MV came out several years ago, but did RS really think nobody would notice if they recycled the MV plot? And fourth, with it being a slow number, they couldn’t really have any elaborate choreography. So…all in all, it was a pretty big let down for me. The only thing I liked were their dresses and Jam Neko Jump’s hair cut.

And then their third single is their song “รักแปลว่ารักรึเปล่า / Ruk Pblae Wah Ruk Reu Pblao (Do Your “I Love You”s Really Mean You Love Me?).” And apparently this is Faye’s solo song. And umm…Faye does not have the greatest voice, in my humble opinion. She is the reason I can’t really get into FFK. She just sounds too breathy and like she tries too hard, it gets on my nerves. So already another slow song sung by Faye, the single already had two marks against itself in my book haha, then the lyrics. Ughhh, I hate these “We’re in love…but I just don’t know! Repeat it again! Tell me you love me again! Do you really mean it? Again!” songs. They just sound so whiny to me. Three strikes, this song’s out.

So, my interest in this album was waning at a rapid pace. But, it came out. And I figured what the heck.
And…Meh. For a group who was supposed to be emulating the dancing kpop girl groups, I was expecting more dances with more fun choreography and such, but there were only three upbeat songs on the rest of the CD…

The first their song “คนขี้ลืม / Kon Kee Leum (Forgetful Person).” I actually really like this song, the beat’s fun, I like the jumps between pop and rap, and it is catchy~ Even the lyrics are fun and cute, though it’s another “Tell me again, tell me again you love me!” song. At least it sounds light-hearted and not demanding and omg I’m paranoid, TELL ME AGAIN!! I do like it, it’s cute~~

And the second upbeat track, “อย่าเผลอนะ / Yah Plur Na (Don’t Slip Up, Kay?).” I don’t like this one as much as Kon Kee Leum. It’s Waii’s solo, right? I think she has the best voice out of all of them, but it’s something I can’t listen to for too long in a row. The beat is catchy, and the song is good one listen at a time, once in a while, but if I were stuck in a room with it on repeat for an hour, I’d be going insane. It’s just something I get sick of quickly. And these lyrics!! Where the heck did they come up with that? It sounds so…bitchy? I guess that fits for Waii, right? hahaha Can I use that word on here? Possessive and so demanding and whiny selfish… I think the lyrics kind of ruined it for me.

So…aside from those two tracks, I think the only other one I really liked is “หยุดฉันที / Yoot Chun Tee (Stop Me).” Is that Jam’s solo song? I can’t tell most of the voices apart, but it sounds like a Neko Jump song. For a slow song, I like the beat and the melody is good~ And the lyrics are a little different than the rest of the album and not so demanding or whiny.

Otherwise…let’s see. “ยิ่งใกล้กันยิ่งกลั้นใจ / Ying Glai Gun Ying Glun Jai (The Closer We Get, The More I Hold My Breath)” I think is cute too. I like the piano at the beginning, and the lyrics and melody are cute, but whoever’s song this is, there’s just something about their voice that gets to me after a while. “คนใหม่ของฉัน / Kon Mai Kong Chun (My New Someone)” I still have yet to listen to the whole song, I can’t stand whoever’s voice that is.

“รักชัดๆ / Ruk Chut Chut (Obvious Love),” there is nothing to obviously love about this song. The third upbeat song with a pop punk feel, the uptempo can’t save it when it’s Mila’s solo. Seriously, she is the worst voice in Thailand. If she and the singer from April Fools Day got married and had a kid, I’d be afraid to hear what it sounded like. It could be used for like prisoner torture devices or something. My goodness. And the rhythm! Was Mila playing her own guitar in this song? Because I swear it sounds like there was 2 guitar chords in the whole song, over and over again, so monotone and repetitive, ughh.

And the closing track, “ไม่มีวันไหนไม่ใช่ของเธอ / Mai Mee Wun Nai Mai Chai Kong Tur (There’ll Never Be a Day I’m Not Yours).” So they have a song “Will There Ever Be a Day You’re Mine?” and one “There’ll Never Be a Day I’m Not Yours”? Seems a little redundant, but that’s just me. That song’s fine I guess, but a little slow and dull to catch my interest, and the usual will you ever love me, I’ll always love you lyrics.

Umm…all in all, I went into this album expecting more catchy, cute songs like Pawa Lok LUV that would have some fun choreography to learn, and instead found mostly slower songs, so I was disappointed with it. And was also a bit let down by the lyrics; too many were too annoying, too whiny, too common and blah. I think some of the lyrics are what mainly turned me off the songs. Is this really the kind of lyrics teens are listening to nowadays? Perhaps even *I’m* getting too old for the teeny boppers now…

But hey, if you’re more into the slower numbers and this is your style, then by all means go for it~
